Rafael Mudafort

Rafael is a senior researcher in wind energy modeling at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He primarily functions as a research software engineer for a variety of wind turbine and wind farm modeling software projects, and his current work involves characterizing and coordinating the collection of wind energy software supported by the US Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO Stack). Rafael is involved with the US Research Software Engineer Association (US-RSE), and he was a 2023 Better Scientific Software Fellow. His objective is to help in the transition to renewable energy by increasing the impact of NREL’s open source, wind energy software.
